This conference "Unlocking the Potential: Keys to Eliminating the Achievement Gap" is grounded in our belief that Black and Latino students possess the untapped genius and intellect to excel given equitable opportunities to learn. For too long we have disregarded the strengths that they possess and instead too often promote a deficit model of teaching and learning. This conference is designed to challenge us to abandon deficit ways of thinking about student capabilities and provide historical perspectives and insights and strategies for using students ' cultural and linguistic assets as foundations upon which to strengthen their academic skills.

Registration

Pre-registration must be either postmarked or completed on-line by Wednesday, March 17, 2010. Thereafter all registration is at the on-site rate. Please note that on-site registrants cannot be guaranteed workshop or meal selection. Mailed registration forms must be accompanied by full payment with checks made payable to B.E.A.M.
