BEAM Annual Conference
This past conference “Eliminating the Achievement Gap: Renewing commitment, Transforming Practices, Getting Results”
was designed to revitalize our commitment to eliminate the achievement/opportunity gap between Black and Hispanic students and
their peers. On March 14th and 15th, 2008, conference participants were challenged and inspired to critique current practices and
develop new educational practices that result in measurable student achievement. Conference presenters provided proven research
based strategies, tools and motivational techniques to actively engage students, inform teacher instructional practice, and build supportive
and effective school/family relationships critical for African Americans, Latinos, special needs students and English Language Learners to
experience success. Eliminating the gap requires sustained and consistent effort, the will to change and the conviction to succeed. With
inspiring, thought-provoking presentations, the interactive workshops offered culturally relevant and responsive methodology and pedagogy
to transform current practices impeding student success so that the excellence we seek is realized. For more highlights on the conference,
